I’m having problems submitting my application. What should I do?
If you are using Internet Explorer, please try a different browser or apply using your mobile phone. If you continue to experience problems, please email courier.recruitment@evri.com
What are the working hours for the role?
As a Self-employed courier working hours can be really flexible depending on a number of factors such as your availability, the location of your round, and the amount of parcels that particular round generates. On average a courier works approximately 5-6 hours a day.
How will I be paid?
Couriers are paid on a monthly basis via BACS. All payments made by Evri to the courier will be without deductions of things like income tax for which you are responsible. Invoices are accessible through the dedicated link in the Courier Community App.
Do I need additional insurance?
As a self-employed courier you must have the correct level of 3rd party cover whilst you’re out making deliveries. Evri has developed a ‘top-up’ insurance with Marsh Insurance. Charged at £1.35 per day and only on the days that service is provided to Evri, this gives the 3rd party cover required for Self Employed Couriers whilst making deliveries and collections on behalf of Evri our clients. (full details can be provided upon request).
Can I apply using a non UK driving license?
Yes, any person with a valid driving license issued in their country of origin is permitted to drive in the United Kingdom for at least 12 months. This includes driving in the UK with an EU license. After this period, you will need to exchange your documents for a UK license or pass the DVSA’s UK driving test. As a self-employed courier with Evri, it is your own responsibility to ensure that your driving license is valid whilst providing service.
Delivery
Who can deliver for Evri?
You are eligible to apply to be a Self-employed Courier with Evri if you have a full, valid driving license, own (or have access to) a car or van with a valid MOT and insurance, have the right to work in the UK and have no unspent criminal convictions.
What will I deliver?
Most of the items you will deliver are from online retailers and vary in size and weight. Nothing will exceed more than 17kg unless we agree this with you separately. Some of our clients do send alcohol/products that contain alcohol through our network.
How am I kept up to date with any recent developments?
Communications and updates are shared in the information library of the Courier Community App, along with weekly email updates. You can of course also contact your dedicated Community Delivery Manager anytime.
How will I get the parcels I am due to deliver?
In most cases, you will collect the parcels yourself from a Delivery Unit local to you. If you live in a remote rural location we may drop the parcels off with you via Solus Drop – this would be discussed with you beforehand.
Do all parcels have to be delivered the same day?
It won’t always be possible to successfully deliver a parcel to a customer, a neighbour, or a safe location on the first day but delivery should always be attempted for all items on the same day you take receipt of them.
What do I do with parcels that I am not able to deliver?
You will need to record the reason for non-delivery on your device and then store the items in a secure place overnight to re-attempt them the following day.
Vehicle
Do I get paid for fuel or mileage?
As a self-employed courier this is one of the costs you would cover yourself.
What type of vehicle do I need?
Any reasonably sized, make or model of vehicle is acceptable as long as it is reliable and has a valid MOT and insurance.
Can I use a hire car or van?
While couriers do need their own transport, there is no requirement for couriers to own their vehicles. However, the vehicle must have a valid MOT and the courier must have insurance in place that covers them to carry out courier work.
Being a courier
What do I have to wear?
Any smart, comfortable clothing is acceptable but optional Evri branded clothing is also available to purchase as part of the Evri Partner Rewards at really affordable prices (full details can be provided upon request).
How many days am I required to work?
The beauty of being self-employed is that it’s completely up to you! You can provide a delivery service between 1 and 7 days a week depending on what you negotiate and agree with us.
What is the holiday entitlement?
As a self-employed courier you are not under any obligation to provide services personally. You have the unconditional right to use a substitute to provide service on your behalf when you want to go on holiday.
Do I need to have background checks to provide service for Evri?
You are not required to provide a DBS certificate before starting to provide service with Evri, however we may request one and if requested, it is a requirement to provide this to us.
Are rates of pay negotiable?
All couriers can seek to negotiate their rate of pay. Note that couriers on a self-employed plus contract are guaranteed at least the minimum wage.
Can I arrange cover for holidays?
You are able to arrange suitable cover for any holiday you might take.
What are the benefits of being a courier with Evri?
Couriers can access benefits such as discounts on technology, vehicle, and business products free of charge. For an annual subscription of £15, couriers can access more rewards, such as discounts on family days out, cinema & restaurants.
Am I responsible for processing my own taxes?
Couriers are self-employed and therefore will need to process their own taxes. Contact the HMRC for guidance, or advice can be found at Paying tax: self-employed
